Earl Dreeshen, Member of Parliament
Red Deer
Earl was born in Red Deer, Alberta and is well respected in business circles in the city and in area towns and villages. Earl and his wife Judy are fourth generation farmers who own and operate a family farm near Pine Lake, AB. They have two grown children, Megan and Devin.
Earl holds a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta and taught Mathematics at the Innisfail High School for 34 years before retiring in June 2008. Over these years, Earl devoted his time and expertise to working with area youth coaching football, track and field, volleyball, fastball, and minor hockey.
Earl is a strong Central Alberta community leader and volunteer. He was elected to the Elnora Hospital Board, serving for many years as chairman of the board. He also has served as Chair of the Eltrohills Health Advisory Committee, working toward improved health care standards in the Three Hills, Trochu, and Elnora communities.
Earl has volunteered for local community groups, such as the Crossroads Agricultural Society, Pine Lake Hub Community Center, Howell’s Lake Community Club, and the Pine Lake Curling Club. Earl also has served as treasurer for his local community church.
Earl’s political experience is extensive at both the provincial and federal levels. He was a board member for the Innisfail/Sylvan Lake constituency for over 15 years. He served as a board member for the Red Deer Electoral District Association (EDA) for 5 years. In 2005, he was elected to go to Montreal representing Red Deer at the founding policy convention of the Conservative Party of Canada.
On October 14th, 2008 Earl was elected Member of Parliament for the Red Deer constituency garnering 33,226 votes (73.1 per cent). He has served as a Member of the Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics, and the Standing Joint Committee on the Scrutiny of Regulations. Earl is currently a Member of the Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development, and the Standing Committee on Public Accounts.
