In Touch with MP Earl Dreeshen - November 30

Pipeline Update

On November 29th, the Liberal Government announced that they approved the Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain Expansion Project (subject to 157 binding conditions), approved Enbridge’s Line 3 Replacement Project (subject to 37 binding conditions), and placed a moratorium on crude and persistent oil tankers along British Columbia’s north coast. The Government has directed the National Energy Board to dismiss Enbridge’s Northern Gateway Pipelines Project application.

While a welcome reprieve from the damage this Government has been doing to the energy industry, the Prime Minister has chosen to approve Kinder Morgan for political reasons. Going forward, Mr. Trudeau must be a champion for pipeline development, or else the pipeline projects will never actually be completed.

My colleagues and I in the Conservative party are also disappointed that the Liberals have closed the door on Northern Gateway, a project that would have created 4000 well-paying jobs. All options should have been left on the table and it is a day surrounded by mixed messaging for unemployed Canadians who just want to get back to work to support their families.

Canadians understand what Mr. Trudeau does not – that Canada’s natural resources are key to creating good jobs. We understand that Canadians can have jobs and a clean environment.

It is unfair for Mr. Trudeau to be killing jobs when the economy has not created a single additional full time job since the Liberal government was first elected.

Alberta Jobs Task Force

Through the recently established Alberta Jobs Task Force, the Conservative Alberta Caucus has been listening to everyday Albertans, employers, small businesses, social assistance organizations, workers and other stakeholders – all of whom are affected by the current jobs crisis and have valuable insight and ideas to share.

Recently my colleague Blaine Calkins and I held a series of joint roundtables as part of this initiative. Between the three sessions we heard from over 60 local residents on their experiences and suggestions to take back to our caucus and present them to the Government. I intend to hold a future discussion in the Mountain View County portion of the riding in early January.

All Albertans are invited to share their views and experiences at www.albertajobstaskforce.ca or by emailing my office at earl.dreeshen.c1@parl.gc.ca. Your ideas will help shape real solutions for the future of Alberta.
