A tough Budget for Tough Times
January 28, 2009Ottawa: Red Deer MP Earl Dreeshen today praised Finance Minister Jim Flaherty for delivering a budget that will help the citizens of the Red Deer riding. Flaherty announced the creation of a new $4 billion Infrastructure Stimulus Fund to help provincial, territorial and municipal governments get projects started and shovels in the ground as soon as possible. There is also a $2 billion fund to support repairs, maintenance and accelerate construction at colleges and universities across Canada. As well there is a new $1 billion Green Infrastructure Fund focused on the creation of sustainable energy infrastructure.
“The Red Deer riding has several very important small and large projects that are publicly supported, costed out and ready to begin. We have a unique opportunity in these tough and uncertain times to provide new jobs, keep existing ones and rebuild our communities. I feel, this budget moves us in the right direction,” said Dreeshen.
“The hard work is not done. This budget is just the first in a series of blueprints we will need. We have a lot more to do. Now it is up to the Opposition parties to get on board, pass this budget and work with us. We did not start the economic crisis, but we will take steps to protect the jobs of today while readying our economy to create the jobs of tomorrow,” finished Dreeshen.
