MP Earl Dreeshen Supports CFR Coming to Red Deer

December 11, 2017

Rodeo has a long and rich history in Central Alberta. For as long as settlers came to the area, we have used rodeo as an avenue for recreation, competition, and a way to experience a shared culture.

“As a committed fan and supporter of rodeo, I was extremely pleased to learn of the Red Deer and District Chamber of Commerce and Westerner Park coming together to submit a bit to the Canadian Finals Rodeo committee in order to choose Central Alberta as the host location on a multi-year basis for their annual finals rodeo,” said Earl Dreeshen, Member of Parliament for Red Deer Mountain View.

The bid represents a tremendous opportunity for the City of Red Deer and the surrounding municipalities, businesses, and residents. The economic and cultural impact of the rodeo will be felt by the entire community - and gives us another opportunity to show off what Central Alberta has to offer on the national stage.

It is also an opportunity for the athletes, fans, and supporters to come to a community that has been immersed in rodeo for generations. Building on recent events like the Scotties Tournament of Hearts and the MasterCard Memorial Cup, as well as the tremendous work being done in preparation of the 2019 Canada Winter Games - this is a community that has shown the country that these kinds of events can flourish here.

“This is a really exciting time in Central Alberta,” Dreeshen added, “I encourage the entire region to join in supporting the community’s bid, and bring one of the world’s best rodeos to Red Deer.”
